3D Modeling & Animation/ Game Design

Software and skills you will learn:

  • Autodesk Maya
  • Post production processes
  • Unity
  • 2D imaging software for vectors
  • Professional digital portfolio building

3D Modeling & Animation I

Design 3D graphics using bitmap and vector editing applications. Record audio and video using electronic devices for editing. Build a scene in a 3D modeling program. Gain the knowledge and skills for careers in the 3D Modeling and Animation pathway.

3D Modeling & Animation II

Amplify 3D models into reality by applying real-world materials and shaders. Deliver 3D character model to life with rigging and animation techniques. Forge creative potential with lights and cameras on a digital stage. Gain knowledge, skills, and industry credentials for careers in the 3D Modeling and Animation pathway.

Game Art & Design

This course introduces students to techniques used in the electronic game industry. Students will focus on the principles used in game design including mathematical and virtual modeling. Emphasis is placed on areas related to art, history, ethics, plot development, storyboarding, programming, 2D Visual theory, and interactive play technologies. Students develop physical and virtual games using hands-on experience and a variety of software.

Advanced Game Art & Design

This course is a continuation in the study of game design and interactivity. Emphasis is placed on visual design, evaluating, scripting and network protocols, and legal issues as well as 3D visual theory. Students compile a game portfolio. Advanced topics include the use of audio and visual effects, rendering, modeling, and animation techniques. Students work in collaborative teams to develop a final 3D game project.

3D Modeling & Game Design Highlights

Courtney Rogers

Digital Design & Animation I & II are now 3D Modeling & Animation I & II. Students get certified in Autodesk Maya instead of Autodesk 3DS Max.

TS24 Digital Design & Animation I and TS25 Digital Design & Animation II has been changed to CD20 3D Modeling & Animation I and CD21 3D Modeling & Animation II.

This is more than just a name change but less than an entirely new course! The name change reflects what certification students will be getting from the end of the 3D Modeling & Animation courses. Students will complete a portfolio full of 3D Modeling basics for the first course then finish out the semester with testing for an Autodesk Certification in Maya.

The course is now covering Autodesk Maya in replacement of Autodesk 3DS Max; this change is to reflect the current industry standard for program use!

The biggest change is that Digital Design & Animation I covered a lot of the Adobe Suite including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Premier Pro, Adobe After Effects. The curriculum has cut most of those programs and is not solely focused on 3D modeling techniques and preparing students for certification!

CD20 3D Modeling & Animation I and II is still required for Game Art & Design and Advanced Game Art & Design.
