The Medical Assisting & Practicum Program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to become a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA). Certified Clinical Medical Assistants work under the supervision of Physicians (MD, DO) and Physician Extenders (PA, NP) to help provide the most fundamental elements of a patient's care. A CCMA has an enormous impact on a patient's day-to-day experience.
The Role of a Certified Clinical Medical Assistant:
A CCMA completes patient intake by taking vital signs, height/weight, EKG's, phlebotomy, assisting the front office (in a MD office), billing and coding, patient scheduling and possibly some patient education.

Certified Clinical Medical Assistants in NC can expect an annual wage range of $30,680-$45,730. According to NC Careers Data, employment of Clinical Medical Assistants is projected to grow 1.7% annually, with as many as 3,945 current job openings.
The Classroom and training lab:
Our facility offers a classroom and training lab suited for success. We have new medical equipment, hospital beds, interactive manikins and a fully stocked medical supply room ready for our students. This gives our students the best hands-on experience in the laboratory prior to partnering with a local facility to give students real field experience.
Corse requirements for this class:

Completion of Health Science I & II
- Vaccinations:
i. Measles/Mumps/Rubella (MMR) – If born in 1957 or after, you need 2 MMR vaccines or 2 Measles with 1 Mumps and 1 Rubella OR titers for all three (MMR).
ii. Chickenpox (Varicella)
iii. Hepatitis B Vaccine/Titer – Documentation of series of 2 shots given over a 6-month period or a positive Hep B titer.
iv. Annual seasonal influenza vaccine (Fall semester only)
4. Valid/non-expired Id card (this can be a permit, driver’s license, state/federal issued identification card)
5. Social security card that is signed (cannot be a copy and cannot be laminated)
6. Proof of current/non-expired CPR certification (AHA or equivalent)
7. Proof of completion of OSHA training
