Nursing Fundamentals
Credentials available:
Certified Nurse Aide I - Once you have successfully completed the Nursing Fundamentals and Practicum course you will receive a certificate of completion. This certificate allows you to apply to take your written exam and skills evaluation. When this is successfully completed you will be placed on the North Carolina Nurse Aide I Registry.
Career opportunities:
Most Certified Nurse Aides work in long-term care facilities that provide rehabilitative or custodial care of patients. They may also work in assisted living environments, or in general hospitals. Other opportunities include home health agencies, outpatient facilities, community health centers, physicians' offices, or patient’s homes.
The Nursing Fundamentals & Practicum Program is designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills to become certified as a Nurse Aide. Certified Nurse Aides work under the supervision of Licensed Nurses or Physicians to help provide the most fundamental elements of a patient's care. Certified Nurse Aides have an enormous impact on a patient's day-to-day experience.
The Role of a Certified Nurse Aide:
Certified Nurse Aides feed, dress, bathe and groom patients, contributing to their sense of normalcy and wellbeing. Certified Nurse Aides are often responsible for duties such as measuring and recording temperature, blood pressure, and other vital signs. They also assist with the administrative duties and record-keeping that accompany patient care. Certified Nurse Aides help patients feel well-cared for and capable as they face medical challenges or diminishing capacity.
